TikTok WAP dance injury

Contrary to Ben Shapiro’s objections, there’s nothing wrong with having a WAP. But that doesn’t mean Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s new sex-positive banger isn’t dangerous in other ways.

Shortly after the Cardi and Meg dropped their new No. 1 hit, dancer and choreographer Brian Esperon uploaded his “WAP” dance on TikTok. The video has racked up nearly 6 million views, been replicated by other TikTok stars such as Charli D’Amelio, and inspired a wave of attempts from other users. It’s easy to see why. The “WAP” dance contains tons of high kicks, splits, twerking, and other movements that, scientifically speaking, seem incredibly painful for a novice to attempt.

Sure enough, tons of people have filmed themselves doing the “WAP” dance and sustaining a range of injuries in the process. TikTok user @tonkatrace shared her valiant attempt, keeping up at the beginning but breaking form and accidentally swatting her phone away near the end of the video.

Later, Trace posted another video sharing some things she wished she had known before attempting the “WAP” Dance.

“You’re not gonna be able to wear shorts or a skirt for at least a week because your legs are covered in bruises,” she said. “And you’re also gonna pinch your neck. But you will feel super sexy."

Trace’s “WAP” Dance fail was nothing compared to TikToker @lib_bbbbbbb, who landed on her knee while filming and had to go to the hospital to get it popped back into place. The video ended with a shot of her lying in a gurney with a brace on her knee and an IV in her arm.

Esperon eventually caught wind of @lib_bbbbbbb’s botched “WAP” dance attempt, reacting with a mixture of amusement and horror.

Consider this a warning: While the “WAP” Dance may look cool, it’s also an occupational hazard.
